avadhesh kumar singh (1960), Professor of English & Comparative Literature since 1993, is Convener, Academic Initiatives, Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar. He is former Vice Chancellor, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad (August 1, 2006 –July 31, 2009). He has been the Coordinator, the University Grants Commission (UGC) Special Assistance Programme (SAP DRS) on “Indian Renaissance Literature. His areas of interest, research, and publication include comparative poetics and contemporary literary theory and criticism, and comparative study of knowledge systems.
He has published more than 130 papers in various anthologies, national and international journals of repute. He has authored 15 books including (i) Indian Knowledge Systems 2 Vols. (with Kapil Kapoor), (ii) Ramayana Through Ages; (iii) Voices of Woman; (iv) Interventions: Critical and Literary Discourses among others. Since 1994, he has been Editor, Critical Practice, a biannual journal of literary and critical studies whose 26 volumes are out. Moreover, he has worked on various UPSC, UGC, DEC and NAAC Committees and is associated with many literary critical and cultural projects. He has been the British Council Visiting Fellow to Corpus Christi College, Oxford (UK) in 1997, and has been invited to University of Megdeburg, Germany as the Visiting Faculty. He has delivered more than 50 Keynote and Plenary Addresses in various national and international seminars.
His latest publications include Towards Interdisciplinarity: (the) University, Humanities and Social Sciences in the 21st Century (2010). Literature, Criticism and Aesthetics in India is under publication with D K Printworld, Delhi.
